Niceville is well named. It is a nice little city in the Florida Panhandle, along Choctawhatchee Bay. The bay is an inlet to the Gulf of Mexico connected to it through East Pass.
 
Although the area has a very old history, today it is a modern city in Okaloosa County with a population of about 16,000.

Niceville is a well-planned, family oriented, quiet town. It enjoys the beauty of the Choctawhatchee Bay and is only about a 20 minute car ride to the sugar sand beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.
 
Niceville High school has consistently ranked as one of the best high schools in Florida. They have even been invited to march in the 2024 Rose Bowl Parade.
 
Niceville is a short drive from Hurlbert Field and it’s adjacent to Eglin Airforce Base. Eglin Airforce base is the largest Airforce Base in the world. Over 25% of the residents are veterans.
 
It has received several accolades in various publications, including one of the safest cities in Florida, one of the 50 safest college towns, and one of the best places to raise a family.
 

Dining, Entertainment and Shopping

Niceville has plenty of shops and restaurants, with the best restaurants often found overlooking the water. Favorites are L J Schooners Restaurant, Jim and Nicks, Front Porch, Topps Choice Hamburgers and the Wharf 850.
 
There are about 30 different department stores in Niceville along with top quality grocery stores. It’s also an easy ride into Destin or Fort Walton Beach if you are looking to have a more exciting shopping experience.
 

Things to do

Sailing is a poplar past time in Niceville. The Midbay Sailing School and Sailing Charter are affiliated with the American Sailing Association and recently received the Outstanding instructor of the year award.
 
Charter Fishing on the Choctawhatchee Bay can bring a full catch of Red Snapper, Amberjack, and King Mackerel.
 
Turkey Creek Nature Trail and Pavilion is a popular attraction for residents and visitors. The Pavilion is a prime location for gatherings and the swimming areas offer a fun place for the family to cool off in the natural spring water. There is canoeing, kayaking, and tubing down the creek. You never know what wildlife you will see.
 
Water Activities Galore – speed boats and pontoons and jet skis are available to rent. Snorkeling and scuba diving is also popular sport in Niceville.
 
Golf – There plenty of beautiful and challenging golf courses. Eglin Golf Course, Rocky Bayou County Club and the Golf Club at Bluewater Bay to name just a few.
 
The Mattie Kelly Arts Center offers Broadway and theater shows, symphony performances and art exhibits.
